Buena Park Youth Theater educates young individuals in the Performing Arts, emphasizing character and confidence. We strive to involve the whole family in a supportive, respectful, and collaborative environment partnering with our community. Buena Park Youth Theater helps parents, volunteers, and cast members achieve incredible theatrical productions while making life long memories and friendships.
Friends of Buena Park Youth Theater is a 501(c)3 charity designed to support the City of Buena Park's youth theater program, a part of the city’s Fine Arts department. The city provides some monetary funds and supplies the rehearsal and performance locations. Friends of Buena Park Youth Theater raises money to provide the necessary supplemental funding for the program. The 'Friends' organization also provides paid professionals and volunteers who run and operate the day to day operations of BPYT.
The Buena Park Youth Theater was started by Ruth Walp, an elementary school teacher, as a result of the budgetary cutbacks in Fine Arts education in our public schools. The Youth Theater has been producing fully staged Broadway musicals since 1980. Over the years, young people between the ages of 5 to 18 have participated in full length productions such as Peter Pan, Oklahoma, Wizard of Oz, Annie, Music Man, Into The Woods, Annie Get Your Gun, The Wiz, Oliver, Here's Love, Scrooge, Honk!, Guys n Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie, Footloose, Once on this Island and many others! The "Friends of BPYT" provides professional lighting, sound, full costumes and complete sets. All shows are presented with the highest quality production values possible and have consistently received outstanding critical acclaim.
